报告人简介:

Dr. Yang Xiang's bio-Dr. Yang Xiang is currently with School of Information Technology, Deakin University, Australia. He received his PhD in Computer Science from Deakin University. His research interests include network and system security, distributed systems, and wireless systems. In particular, he is currently leading in a research group developing active defense systems against large-scale network attacks and new Internet security countermeasures. His recent research has been supported by the Australian Research Council (ARC), the University, and industry partners. The total research fund that he received is over 1 million Australian dollars. Dr. Xiang has published more than 100 research papers in international journals and conferences, most of them are IEEE/ACM journals/conferences, or with an ISI impact factor, such as IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Forensics and Information Security, IEEE Communications Letters, and IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications. He co-authored the book 'Dynamic and Advanced Data Mining for Progressing Technological Development' (IGI Global, 2010). Dr. Xiang is the co-founder of the International Conference on Network and System Security. He has served as Program Chair for more than 10 international conferences such as IEEE/IFIP EUC 11, ICA3PP 11, TrustCom 11, IEEE HPCC 10/09, IEEE ICPADS 08, NSS 10/09/08/07. He was also organizer, steering committee member, workshop or publicity chair for about 20 events since 2006. He has been PC member for about 50 international conferences such as IEEE ICC, IEEE GLOBECOM, SECRYPT, Malware, and IEEE ICPADS. He has served as the guest editor for ACM Transactions on Autonomous and Adaptive Systems, Computer Communications (Elsevier), Future Generation Computer Systems (Elsevier), Journal of Network and Computer Applications (Elsevier), and Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience (Wiley). He is the regular reviewer for many international journals such as IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, IEEE Communications Letters, and IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications. He is on the editorial board of Journal of Network and Computer Applications (Elsevier) since 2008. His homepage is athttp://www.deakin.edu.au/~yang or contact him on yang@deakin.edu.au.

Title: Large-scale Internet Attacks: Challenges and Emerging Countermeasures

Abstract: Today people are more and more dependent on the Internet, which supports other critical infrastructures such as financial, energy, communications, transport, government, defence, and emergency services. However, the Internet is facing serious threats from Internet terrorism and crime, which cause huge financial loss and potential life hazard every year. In particular, the large-scale distributed and coordinated Internet attacks, such as large-scale stealthy scans, worm outbreaks, distributed denial of service attacks, and botnets, bring significant challenges to the current Internet. Recently attackers have shown increasing sophistication in their ability to launch attacks that target or utilise a large number of hosts that are spread over a wide geographical area or multiple administrative domains. Early indication and warning of an impending attack is a critical and challenging aspect in defense against large-scale Internet attacks. We will show some emerging countermeasures developed by our research group at Deakin University, Australia, to defend against these large-scale Internet attacks, from an innovative point of view. The research has been supported by various research projects of the Australian Research Council and Deakin University, and published at different journals and conferences such as IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, IEEE Communications Letters, and IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications
